Q1. What is a habitat ? 

Answer - The surroundings where the plants and animals live is called their habitat . Different plants and animals live in different habitats

ex - In terrestrial habitat  land animals live ,In  aquatic habitat water animals live  etc .

Q2. How are cactus adapted to survive in a desert 

Answer - In following way a cactus adapted to survive in desert  

  • There leaves are in the form of spines reduce transpiration 
  • Stem is thick fleshy and green in colour for photosynthesis 
  •  Stem covered with waxy coating 
  • Their roots are go very deep into the soil for absorbing water

a) The presence of specific features which enables a plant or an animal to live in a particular habitat is called Adaptation 

b ) The habitat of the plants and animals that live on land  are called terrestrial habitat .

Q4. Which of the thing in the following list are nonliving 

Plough ,mushroom , sewing machine, radio , water hyacinth, earthworm ,boat 

Answer - Non living things in above list are  - Plough, sewing machine ,radio, boat .

Q5. Give an example of a non living thing which show any two characteristics of living things ?

Answer- An Aeroplane is an example of non living thing that shows the two characteristics similar to the living things 

  • Aeroplane move from one place to another place 
  • It requires energy in the form of fuel just like living beings

Q6. Which of the non living things listed below were once part of a living thing ? 

Butter, leather ,soil ,wool, electric bulb, cooking oil ,salt, Apple, rubber  

Answer - Following non living things which were once apart of living things 

a) Butter is made up by milk and it is obtained from milk producing animals  

b) Leather piece obtained from animal skin 

c). Woll is animal fibre which obtained from the hair of sheep 

d) Cooking oil is obtained from the seeds of some plants 

e) Rubber is obtained from the latex of rubber plant 

f) Apple is a fruit obtained from apple tree 

And other are the non living things which were never a part of any living thing

Q7. List the common characteristics of the living things ? 

Answer - Some common characteristics of living things are 

  • They grow and die 
  • They move from one place to another place 
  • They reproduce to maintain their population 
  • They respond to stimuli in their environment. 
  • They respire and excrete waste material

Q8. Explain why speed is important for survival in the grass land for animals that live there ( Hint There are few trees or places for animals to hide in grassland habitat) 

Answer-  The speed is important for the survival in the grassland for animals herbivorous animals that live there because in grassland many grasses are found and the trees are very few in number predators such as lions and tigers are easily catch up the herbivorous animals found  in this reason it is very easy for the predators to locate their prey in grass therefore the protect themselves from the predators animals adapt themselves by increasing their speed.
